Ann Fraser is the 2020 recipient of Zonta’s Victoria School of Art scholarship.
Creative expression has been a hallmark of Ann’s life and visual arts have always held an important place. Encouraged by a talented and creative mother, she was given early opportunities in oil painting at Yelland Studios in Orange County, California, and later worked with landscape painter Roy Mason.
Early recognition included commissions for designing and publishing a yearbook and anthology cover, and adjudicated awards for illustration. At the same time, she was earning high accolades in music and theatre.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at the University of Idaho, Ann became a professional violinist and music teacher based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In recent years she has returned to her love of drawing and painting full-time. She is currently completing a Diploma in Animation at the Victoria College of Art, which has included courses in design, drawing, painting and sculpture alongside courses in classic 2-D drawn animation and using the industry standard Toon Boom® computer software.
