Some things we enjoy...
Science Fair, 2008
Alice Jourmel of Frances Kelsey School was awarded the Zonta Victoria scholarship at the Science Fair, 2008. She took, to the Canada Wide Science Fair in Ottawa, her project on the relationships within and between the strength and vibration properties of hardwoods. She designed and constructed new equipment to test properties such as elasticty, surface hardness and speed of sound in four hardwood species.
Alice says "I really appreciate the support of Zonta, especially as I know your support helped get me to the Canada-Wide fair. Attached is an article I was asked to do this week for my school newsletter; I hope you can tell from it how much the Science Fair means to me." You can find Alice's article here.
Building Bridges?
November 17 Fundraiser: Bridge players came on down to play, to eat and to purchase goodies. Many thanks to Sannee for coordinating, to the sandwich and confection makers, the bakers, the knitters- and just everyone who jumped in to help in some way, shape or form. To quote one of the attendees "I didn't think you could improve on this event, and yet you did!"
United Nations on our Doorstep?
October 25, 2007 Business Meeting: Dr David Hawley, Director of Pearson College, told us the 200 students at Pearson come from 100 different countries. He was accompanied by two students who shared with us how religions and cultures cease to be a barrier to friendships at Pearson.
German Night! A team of our own extraordinary chefs prepared authentic and delicious food feeding well over 50 guests. Beer, wine and more than a few draw prizes complimented the evening. Besides being a successful fundraiser (all dedicated to Pearson College), it was a night of great camaraderie as you can see.... Check out some more great photos
Inter-City Gathering Zonta Clubs of Victoria and Nanaimo met on July 28, 2007 for a little inter-city fun, see the group on the photopage!
